Empress Amálie Vilemína as a widow
Habsburg monarchy, about 1711–1719
Watercolor, gouache, ivory, brass, height 6,9 cm
National Museum in Prague, inv. č. H2-7124
The oval medallion with the Empress Amalia Vilemina was made by one of the Viennese workshops. Amálie Vilemína is captured in a black widow`s dress, so the work was created sometime after the death of her husband, Emperor Joseph I, in April 1711. The small painting is set in a brass frame planted with glass imitations of amethysts. The work is now in the collections of the National Museum in Prague.
